Statistical Services:
Top ten reasons
to be a statistician:

1)  Estimating
parameters is easier
than dealing with real
life.

2)  Statisticians are
significant

3)  I always wanted to
learn the entire Greek
alphabet.

4)  The probability a
statistician major will
get a job is > .9999.

5)  If I flunk out I can
always transfer to
Engineering.

6)  We do it with
confidence, frequency,
and variability.

7)  You never have to
be right - only close.

8)  We're normal and
everyone else is skewed.

9)  The regression line
looks better than the
unemployment line.

10)  No one knows
what we do so we are
always right.

Information is worthless if you don’t collect and examine it properly.

Many people just don’t “get” statistics, and for good reason.  It is not just number crunching,
it is also something of a philosophy.  Nothing is truly absolute, every probable outcome
occurs in the range between the numbers 0 and 1, and the mathematics involved feature
combinations of data to find more data.  However, whether an art or science, statistics, when
done correctly can be extremely informative and helpful!

Experimental Design:

Don’t waste time and energy!  Before you begin an experimental process allow me to
develop a design that is robust (minimally impacted by external forces), and will allow for
objective and valid conclusions.

I use the following guidelines for experimental design:

Define objectives and state the problems and/or questions to be answered.
Define potential factors and levels, and choose the valid design factors for the
experiment.
Select an appropriate response variable.
Select an appropriate experimental design.
Perform the experiment with checks for validity.
Analyze the collected data with appropriate statistical methods to achieve the most
objective results.
Offer practical conclusions and recommended courses of action.

I am familiar with numerous experimental design and statistical analysis techniques.  Please see my Curriculum Vitae for a listing of some of the processes I utilize, or feel free to contact
me for more detailed information.

Correlational Research:

You have the data.  What you desire is knowledge of its direction, degree, and form.

How do your variables interact?  How strong is their relationship?  Is it linear or not?

I can help you to set up your study or survey, clean your data,  define your variables of
prediction and criterion, and analyze your information.

Sound a bit complicated?  It can be.  Let me help you, it will save you so much time and effort
in the long run!

Quality Control:

Indicators of quality seem to cover every letter in the alphabet; X-bar, R-bar, S-bar...this is
the most straightforward type of statistics (in my opinion).   And I'm good at it.  Moreover,
I'll do these analyses, write your protocol, and you'll probably never need me again.  But
that's fine with me, I just want to make sure you know how to stay in compliance!

Dissertation Help:

Call it what you will:  Chapters 3 and 4.  Methodology and Results.  Scary.  A pain in the (insert name of body
part here).   Whether you have no idea where to begin, or know exactly what you want and
just need some help getting it done,  I can help.

I offer a complete range of services to my clients.  Allow me to:

Design your study before you submit your proposal.
Design a survey or questionnaire.
Clean your collected data and run descriptive statistics.
Run complex inferential analyses.
Provide a written report in APA format of results for use in your Methodology chapter.
Consult with you as needed during the entire process, including your defense to
committee.

I offer a special rate for dissertation work, and I'm open to negotiating with the budget
conscious graduate or Ph.D. student.  Feel free to contact me for more information regarding
fees, or if you have any questions.

Recent Projects:

Following are some of the more recent projects for which I have performed statistical design
and analysis:

-- Groundwater data analysis for EPA regulated environmental study.

-- Experimental design and data analysis of an early phase efficacy study for a pharmaceutical company.

-- Utilized stratified random sampling and U.S. Census Bureau data to estimate the average
number of children living in poverty in the United States.  Constructed a regression estimate
model with an auxiliary variable as the total number of relevant children in a given district.

-- Statistical analysis of bird densities in California oak woodlands to determine various
diversity patterns and their differences between higher and lower latitudes.

-- Performed a quality control study of a hotel chain to determine if the process of "room
readiness" was in compliance within given specifications.

-- Designed a correlational study to assess relationships between various elements of a
public education system and its academic support of special needs students.
